MCV RESIN*

MCV resin is a biocidal iodine release resin used to purify water by releasing a specified and consistent amount of iodine which kills all waterborne biological contaminants including bacteria, viruses and the dysentery carrying cyst (Giardia). More specifically, the product is an iodinated anionic exchange resin, manufactured and sold under the MCV trademark, which releases iodine molecules into the water.

MCV resin is the only approved and flight certified water purification and decontamination technology used by NASA and is used in all space shuttle missions and in the Space Station, FREEDOM, project. Additionally, the MCV resins are being used in research programs by Boeing, Lockheed and other major aerospace companies.

IODOSORB MEDIA*

The "iodosorb" media is designed to totally remove all residuals of iodine and iodide. It was developed in response to EPA's concern over the health effects of consuming iodine over a long period of time. Activated carbon filters will not remove all iodine and iodide and the residual amounts of these chemicals could pose a potential health hazard from long-term exposure. Only the iodosorb media will remove all iodine and iodide.

The MCV resin and iodosorb media were developed by UMPQUA Research Company, an independent environmental and water quality research and development laboratory. The MCV iodinated resin manufacturing technology, together with the quality assurance program identical to that required by NASA for flight certification, assures consistent batch to batch iodine content, a consistent and predictable iodine release rate, end-use product life cycle predictability and, therefore, guaranteed end-use product efficacy and performance. It is important to make these product distinctions from earlier iodinated resin manufacturing technologies which are generally known in the health and scientific community. The superior performance characteristics and reliability of the MCV iodinated resin over these earlier resins is significant.

Systems using resins prepared under this earlier manufacturing technology are at a high risk not to perform according to manufacturers' product life specifications and could expose users to serious health hazards from drinking water that is not safe.

Laboratory tests confirm that the iodinated resin technology is effective against a wide range of microorganisms. A partial list is provided below:

Cholera
Diphtheria
Pneumonia
Tuberculosis
Hepatitis A and B

Other bacteriological organisms:

Staphylococcus aureus
Escherichia coli
Pseudomonas aeruginosa
